Take your time! and practice until you fully understand each concept before moving on to the next one. The great thing about the guitar is the fact that it is largely a pattern instrument. There are tons of patterns to learn, but they are easy to remember, and soon you'll be able to picture all sorts of patterns everywhere on the neck! Here's a simple, 4-note pattern that you can move to just about anywhere on the neck.
