The Basics: Turning the pegs one direction will lower the pitch of your string, while turning the other direction will raise the string to a higher pitch.
Note: If your guitar strings are old, you may need to invest in a new set of strings. Strings will lose proper tone over time.
What You Need: If you invest in a guitar tuner, learning how to tune will become a much easier process. However, you can also download a free online guitar tuner by clicking here. (download will open in a new window)
Note: This online tuner requires your computer to have a microphone. If you do not have a microphone, I suggest simply getting a 'real' tuner.
But if you're like me, an online guitar tuner might not work for you all of the time. I don't carry my computer everywhere, so I carry around my Korg GA30 Tuner.
It fits in my guitar case- and makes tuning a guitar much easier.
(My friends use it as much as I do!)
Order a tuner online, or at pick one up at your local guitar shop. A good guitar tuner will make your life much easier.
You can plug your guitar directly into the tuner, or use its built in microphone. As you pluck each string- your tuner will let you know if that string is in tune
